Senioritis Hits Class of 2016

Seniors Ronan McElveny, Emma Winters, Katie Hearther, and Maximillion Philson pose as victims of senioritis. Senioritis is an affliction that seniors experience when they are ready to graduate, and have no motivation to do their best when completing assignments. “Seniors can get lazy, but they can’t just slack off,” Bryce Edmonson (12) said. “They’ll fail.”

Senioritis is an affliction that students in their final year of high school or college face, usually caused by stress, which results in a lack of motivation. According to Urban Dictionary, the symptoms are laziness, multiple absences, drowsiness, dismissive attitude, procrastination, and lower performance rates. Senioritis is said to be extremely contagious.

Even junior Jeremiah Joswick admits to experiencing this phenomenon.

“I have been strongly affected,” he said. “I sleep as soon as I get home, my homework turn in rate is about two percent, but I turn it in eventually. To my fellow juniors, be prepared.”

Senior Tihani Petersen (12) said, “I had senioritis in the beginning of the school year. Senior year is stressful because I procrastinate.”

The only known cure for senioritis is graduation.

“It’s a real thing. Being a senior really stresses me out,” Dillon Sunday (12) said, “but, I’m very excited to be graduating.”

Kiana McCullough (12) said, “My senioritis comes and goes,” but when this senior knows she being affected by senioritis she tries to stay on task. “ I always keep myself busy in class so that I won’t get bored and slack off.

What many may consider a myth has become a reality for others.

“Ever since I started senior year, it has become real,” Kaitlin Tilitile (12) said.

While senioritis may be afflicting Rams left and right, the fear of failure may be enough to snap students out of their rut.
