On Oct. 16, Radford High School held a bonfire for the homecoming game that took place the next day. The Radford varsity football team ended their homecoming season by playing the Moanalua varsity football team. Students and family members gathered at the practice football field to watch the lighting of the fire.
When asked about the event, Erik Montalvo, a junior at Radford, said “The bonfire was cool, the food was great, and it was pretty cheap,” he said. “Overall, it was a lot of fun. The Radford community is strong and awesome.”
The night continued on with the band playing, food trucks selling food, and games being played.
They had games such as inflatable axe, throwing, and spin the wheel. They also had the option to buy light up glasses. They had food trucks selling chicken and rice, local food, and pizza.
Ayden Savage, a varsity football player and senior at Radford, he said, “the bonfire was a lot of fun.” He lit the bonfire and played in the band as a drummer. When asked about performing, he said, “drumming was too lit.” They played songs including “Creep” by Radiohead, “Aerials” by System Of A Down, and “Misery Business” by Paramore.
As the night came to an end, the bonfire was put out, the food trucks were packed up, and the area was cleaned. The bonfire was the first of the events to kick off the homecoming weekend.
