Is one console really better than the other? Maybe!

Logan Henley, Editor

With the next generation of gaming consoles almost out for purchase, many people are uncertain about which console to buy. There have been many arguments over the years about which console is worth buying and which is not, but is one really better than the other?

Every 7 or 9 years, the next generation of gaming consoles come out, and many people empty their pockets to purchase one, gamers or not. When the new consoles hit the market, they disappear as soon as they arrive. Gaming has become a more common and fun way to spend time with friends and family, and because of this, people want to make sure the console they choose is the best option. With the Xbox Series X launching on November 10 and PS5 on November 12, people are constantly arguing over which gaming console to get. The real argument: is one console really better than the other?

Xbox History: The first-ever Xbox developed by Microsoft was released in November of 2001, and it was very successful. This was the first-ever gaming console Microsoft released. Next was the Xbox 360, which was released in November 2005. This was a huge success and generated $56 billion within 7 years of its release. In November 2013, Microsoft released the Xbox One, which was one of the most successful consoles to ever release along with the Playstation 4, selling well over 50 million units during its initial release. Xbox consoles have been released with extremely positive reviews, and have proved to be reliable consoles. However, the Xbox Series X is better than any Xbox console before it.

Xbox Series X: The Xbox Series X has been improved in almost every aspect. Microsoft claims it to be “The fastest, most powerful Xbox ever,” and with the new improvements added to the console, it seems likely that their statement is true. The design of the Xbox Series X is not the best looking, but that isn’t what it’s there for. It is wider than ever before and very plain looking. The new remote included with the console, has minor changes, like added grip to the triggers and an extra button to record gaming clips. The new console promises up to 120 fps (frames per second) for its games, which is high compared to previous consoles. The Xbox Series X is also capable of 8K HDR gaming with the proper setup. Microsoft also added DirectX ray racing, which will deliver impressive lighting, shadows, and accurate reflections to give a real-world look. The Xbox Series X also includes exclusive games just as the PS5 does, such as Halo, and many more new games to come. One of the main focuses of Microsoft was to make the new console one of the fastest consoles to date. IGN reviewed the console and said it was “impressively fast” and took games that normally load for minutes on the Xbox One such as GTA 5, in seconds. While many gamers joke about the Xbox Series X looking like a “fridge.” it is packed with up to date and improved gaming technology to give the player the best experience possible.

PlayStation history: The PlayStation has also had massive success over the past many years. The first-ever PlayStation released in 1994 and became the only gaming console in history to sell over 100 million units worldwide. 6 years later in 2000 the Playstation 2 was released and is recognized as one of the best-selling consoles of all time, as it sold 155 million units which is more than any other console to date. In 2006, the Playstation 3 released as one of the most powerful gaming systems during its time, improved in every way with better graphics and fps. In November of 2013, the PlayStation 4 was released. The PlayStation 4 sold 113 million units worldwide.

PlayStation 5: The PlayStation is new in every way. The overall design of the Console and controller has been changed like never before. The design of the PS5 looks great. The overall curved shape and blue lights inside make it pop out compared to the Xbox. The remote steals the show compared to the new Xbox remote. The overall shape has completely changed from the PS4 remote, with a new feel to almost every button. Like the Xbox Series X, the PlayStation 5 has improved the speed from the last generation’s PS4. It claims to have instant load times for installed games, which is huge for the gamers as it lets them get to the game much quicker. Also like the Xbox Series X, the PlayStation 5 has also added ray tracing to the console and produces up to 120 fps. The PlayStation 5 also has some good exclusive games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

To sum everything up, one console isn’t necessarily better than the other. There is much more detail and new features of the new consoles to go into. Both consoles include amazing up to date gaming tech and features that make playing video games so much more fun. Is one console really better than the other? That is for the player to decide.
