Restaurant Review: Hawaii’s Got Soul

Avery Trujillo, Reporter

Whoever thought that in the midst of laulau, kalua pig, and steamed manapua, you’d be able to find a menu offering southern classics. Mom’s Soul Food Crabwings located in Pearl City delivers just that. They offer a variety of delicious down-home cooking.

Offerings range from chicken smothered with gravy and rice, garlic roasted crab, and fried catfish. Most entrees come with one or two of their many sides. Diners can chose from delicious fried cabbage, mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, among many others.

Homey-ness is what you can expect when you enter Mom’s establishment. The atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting. It’s almost as if you were at home with your family. The staff is always there to greet you with a warm smile and they’re very helpful when it comes to suggesting menu favorites for almost everyone.

I hope that your next night out on the town or family dinner includes Mom’s Soul Food. You won’t regret trying them, and you’ll be sure to keep coming back for more.
