Running from April 6 to May 1, 2026, Ms. Badua and her Culinary II classes hosted a snack shop for our school’s campus. The four periods cooked a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. These periods served to paying classes whose teachers had signed up for orders in advance.
The various menu items included pork lumpias, smashburgers, chicken katsu, fried oreos, brownie ice cream sandwiches and many more.
“I always let the students know we want to make sure the food items we serve are feasible,” said Ms. Badua, after being asked how she and her students determined their menu items. “I like to give students choice and autonomy, but ultimately choose what’s best for the entire class.”
Our school’s student body aren’t the only ones who benefit from eating savory snacks, meals and treats: the students in the kitchen are learning valuable life and workplace skills.
When asked about what skills her students gain from working in the snack shop, Ms. Badua said, “When they enter any CTE program, whether it’s wood shop or automotive, we really enforce professionalism. We want them prepared when they go to work, which is why we enforce having proper work attire [and] learning how to communicate and talk to others. You won’t always like everyone that you work with, but it’s how you work with them.”
As for next year, there are plans to do more off-campus and outside community work, such as themed catering. If one is interested in participating in a snack shop for 2027, visit room 117 if one has questions about registering for any culinary classes.
