Making memories at Germaine’s Lūʻau on Jan. 10, the class of 2026 experienced a night to remember. Based in Kapolei, Germaine’s Lūʻau center has been established since the 1970s and is built along a scenic beachfront where students took individual and class pictures upon arriving.
“I thought it was a good time, and a good experience,” Yoatzin Lindsey said. “I think just being there in general because I’m experiencing a different culture, I got to try the different foods. I liked the dances and being with friends.”
Lindsey, a first-time lūʻau attendee, was shocked to see the ocean and greenery. Germaine’s offers interactive activities such as flower pinning and temporary tribal tattoos for guests to enjoy. Participating in the flower pinning, Lindsey received a carefully crafted arrangement which consisted of a plumeria flower and leaves surrounding the border.
“The food was really good and well prepared. There was a good variety,” said Luke Barner.
At a buffet-style dinner, lūʻau attendees tried potato salad, barbecue beef, chicken teriyaki, white rice, poi, and more local cuisine. Barner, a food enthusiast, claims the barbecue beef was his favorite dish.
In the coming years, future senior rams should consider attending the lūʻau as they receive exposure to Polynesian culture as well as the opportunity to grow closer as a class. “…you get to try other food, get to see all the dances, the activities,” Lindsey said. “I definitely think it was worth the money.”
