This quarter, Mrs. Arisumi, a senior class advisor, and the senior leadership students hosted Radford’s first ever senior breakfast event on August 22, 2025 during Period 2. Additionally, this was also the first senior class social event of the year. Unlike previous events, the senior leadership class actively cooked and served their fellow seniors.
On the menu, “All-you-can-eat pancakes and toppings which included: chocolate chips, whipped cream, strawberries, flavored syrup, maple syrup, and sprinkles,” she said. “We even had some colored pancakes!”
On top of that, the event included more than just breakfast. Since this year’s Radford Homecoming Week theme is “Rams Got Game,” a variety of games were provided at the event.
She said, “Games like giant Connect-4, giant Jenga, board games, card games, and Mouse Trap games were available.”
Aside from the breakfast and games, senior breakfast was hosted to bring seniors together, “This event was important to ignite class spirit and allow the senior class a morning to create lasting memories…” she said.
Not only did this event bring students together, but it was also hosted, “… to give the amazing Leadership 12 class an opportunity to show their fellow seniors that they are here to serve them,” she said.
Gregory Cachero, a senior leadership student who participated in cooking and serving the pancakes, described what he took away as a lesson from this experience. “I guess trying to plan ahead more, especially in regards to logistics [for the pancake ingredients].” Gregory said. “There were some moments where we didn’t have enough mix for the griddles and sometimes the batter was too watery or too doughy, stuff like that.”
She has been supporting the class of 2026 since their freshman year, and since this was the first of some of the last events she gets to help out with regarding the graduating class, “…it makes me truly happy to be there for them in any way that I can to give them the best high school experience possible,” Mrs. Arisumi said.
She also talks about her favorite memories from the event, “hearing from seniors that the pancakes actually tasted great and when Gwen Villarin made a huge pink pancake for me shaped as a heart.”
Overall, the senior breakfast event was successful for both the leadership students and the over 130 seniors who attended. Gregory concluded with, “It was an amazing event, I would love to help or to do something similar to it again.”
If any seniors enjoyed this event or want to experience something similar, make sure to sign up for Radford’s Senior Picnic, which will be hosted on Friday, October 24, 2025. “It’s going to be a RAMtastic time!” added Mrs. Arisumi.
