Forty-four students and 16 faculty members signed up, with some donors waiting for more than an hour, to donate blood.

A total of 35 pints of blood were donated, almost reaching their goal of 37.

“It’s important to donate blood because every second someone in the world needs blood either a cancer patient or someone injured in an accident,” Hannah Schumacher (12), leadership vice president and blood bank committee chairperson, said.

First time donor Victoria Deems (12) said that she donated to save lives.

Emma Winters (12) didn’t donate, but she plans to sign up for the next drive.

“I didn’t end up doing it because I didn’t get the form in on time,” she said. “I will definitely donate next time though.”

Donors must be 17 years old (with parental permission), weigh more than 110 pounds, have not visited Europe for more than six months, eat a good breakfast, get enough sleep, and hydrate (at least three 16 ounce bottles) the day before donating.

Another student who wanted to donate is Genesis Grosik (12) who was not allowed “because I lived in Europe for seven years.”

Senior leadership has three more blood drives planned, with the next drive slated for Nov. 9.
