Spanish teacher Sarah Stephens joins the World Languages department. While she is a recent addition to the school, she is no stranger to teaching.

This school year marks her 12th year of teaching.

“I taught for 10 years in Baldwinsville, NY (outside of Syracuse) and one year in Midland City, AL,” she said.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and double majored in Spanish and English from Central Michigan University. Her master’s degree is in Second Language Acquisition from State University of New York at Cortland. 

Similar to many of her students, she has military ties. Not only is her husband an Apache pilot in the Army, she is also a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

“I’m a signal officer in the 227th Brigade Engineer Battalion,” she said.

Stephens said that fell in love with the Spanish language when she was in high school.

During her  time at school, Stephens already noticed that Radford students have pride in the school and in athletics.

She said that she enjoys distance running, hiking, and spending time with her husband and puppy.
